New blog theme . . . New Start

I have been lacking in the blog posts lately because honestly I hate my life!  LOL  No, seriously I do.

My husband just tells me to snap out of it because I have a good life.

Well, if my life is so good; why do I pray that friends that have cancer that it wouldn't have happened to them but me.

Why do I hate waking up in the morning?

Why do I wish my mom would have aborted me back in the 60's so she wouldn't have the stigma of being a single mom back then?

Then he tells me look at our two girls.  Yes, I love them with all my heart but they would be better off if I wasn't around but unfortunately I can't leave.

See, I gave up my career 18 years ago to be a stay at home mom.  Then when school came around, I was lucky and didn't have to work until my youngest started school.  So now I substitute teach so I can be home during holidays and summer.  That's the good news.  The bad news is that the money I make goes towards the girls incidentals and there usually is nothing to save. No savings, no getting away.

Don't get me wrong.  My husband is a great financial provider but that's about it.  He has no compassion, no sensitivity, etc.  He said it is me that I changed.  Don't think so.

The last time we made love about 10 years ago.  Yep, you read right.  Pretty sad isn't it.  I went into surgery two years ago, most spouses want to kiss their spouse goodbye not mine.

My girls are now 17 and 13.  The 17 year old graduated with her license to cut hair.  What is she doing?  Working at Justice 6 hours a week.  Who is paying for her college.  We are.  Dad said it is ok.  I'm sorry but the kid has not learned any responsibility.  I have tried when it was time for her to get her license to drive.  Dad handed her a car and is paying the insurance and most the time the gas.  She is still upset that she has a younger sister.  Get over it princess!!!

My 13 year old is smart as a whip and I see her going places if she can get over the fact that she HATES people.  Yeah she is therapy because of it.  She was never like this is elementary school so hopefully it is the middle school blues.

We can't go on vacation because the two of them fight like cats and dogs.  Pretty sad.  I still have to leave the mall if they act up because I am not dealing with it.

Need to have my knees replaced.  Not in this lifetime.  Our household would come to a complete standstill.

I have tried my best with a man whose first excuse is "i have to work".  He never comes to any of the girls events, oh maybe one a year.  Oh maybe the one a year to show his face.  I tried to explain to him that other fathers do it but he doesn't want to hear it.  It's not like he is a doctor or a lawyer.

I have no family really to speak of.  Well there is the uncle who is a life long bachelor who has a speech problem and can't read or right so well.  He calls when he needs something or then he sets it up for me to help out and then doesn't call.  But if I don't get back to him right away I hear about it.

I have a younger half brother and family that live 86 miles away, last I saw them 4 years ago.  I'm tired of always having to go up to visit them.  Tired of the excuses on why they can't come down here.

Mother has been called 10 years.  My "dad" has been called 30.  My biological dad - no clue.  Never met the man, didn't know about it until 10 years ago.  yeah I am bitter and MAD.

Tried therapy, it's not for me.  I use to be a very outgoing and social person.  Not anymore.

I honestly believe that I am better off dead.  At least then my organs can go to people who want to live.

Review: Jersey Boys (The Movie)

Last nite I was one of the lucky winners from our local newspaper, The Baltimore Sun, to see a sneak preview of “Jersey Boys”.  I really wanted to see this movie, because I grew up listening to Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons – thanks to my mom and dad.

I really liked this movie!  Several times I was sitting there in tears because of what was going on in the movie and a couple times because I wished my mom would have been sitting next to me to watch this movie.  She will be able to see it once it is released in Heaven.

I have never seen the Broadway play “Jersey Boy”, so I didn’t know anything about the story of how the group started.  During the movie I was wondering how much was true and how much was made up from some of the characters who were “telling” the story.  But as the credits rolled, I saw that Frankie Vallie was one of the executive producers.  And directed by the one and only Clint Eastwood.

This story starts at the beginning of the group, even before they were known as Frankie Vallie and The Four Seasons and goes all the way to their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.

The only actor I recognized was Christopher Walken.  He played Gyp DeCarlo, local mobster.  John Lloyd Young starred as Frankie Vallie, reprising his Tony Award role from Broadway.   I thought the entire cast did an amazing job.  As I was doing a little research I found why I didn’t know any of the cast.  According to IMDB:  “Director Clint Eastwood declined to use any Hollywood actors for the main cast, but mainly stage actors who play the role every night onstage.”

Denisa Protani, posing in front of one of the four cars that was at the sneak preview.
Denisa Protani, The Readers Reward Manager from The Baltimore Sun, suggested that we sing along with the songs!  It was so easy to do and I did hear people singing throughout the movie!  While doing more reading, I learned that all the music was performed while the actual film was being recorded, so it sounds like no dubbing and lip syncing were involved in this movie.

Kristina, who is now 13, went with me. I saw her laughing and crying during the movie.  I asked her if she enjoyed it and she said she did.  I was so glad that she wanted to experience this movie with me.  Growing up, I remember my mom and dad; mostly my mom, playing their albums.  It was nice to share with Kristina little bits of info from that era in music.
Before the movie.  There was $400,000 worth of vintage cars at the Sneak Peek.

The Four Seasons played at a local nightclub, The Club Venus.  Back in the day it was known as a Dinner Night Club.  I explained to Kristina, this was how a lot of bands toured before the big concert venues opened.  My dad was the bookkeeper at The Club Venus.  My parents were able to attend some of the shows. I wonder if they ever saw The Four Seasons when the appeared?

Grab your mom, dad, or grandparents and go see this movie and step back into time!  You won’t be disappointed.  The movie opens nationwide on Friday, June 20, 2014.

Never too early to think about Christmas - Elf on the Shelf

This is such an awesome deal on the Elf on the Shelf.  Now is the time to get it and to put it away for Christmas 2014!

We made an Elf from a graphic last year to use in pre-K and he really worked.  The kids loved it!

Book Review: Accidents & Incidents

I had the opportunity to read Accidents & Incidentsby Riley Graham.  I received the book for free for my honest opinion about the book.  All comments are mine, and mine alone.

Accidents & Incidents is a good read for Young Adults.  Leslie lives with her single mom and is a high school student living in North Carolina.  Leslie is trying to navigate her way through her first "love" and the highs and lows that go with it.

Being a parent, I was able to relate to Leslie's mom somewhat, which I don't know if it is a good thing or not.  LOL  Leslie's mom has the best interest at heart for Leslie but she is going through tough times herself.

Dennis, is the new boy at school.  Keith is Leslie's boyfriend, and then their is Cain, Keith's best friend. Right here with these three characters, you know there is going to be boy drama.  Let's not forget some "girl" drama that is intertwined into the story.  The author has done a really good of helping me and others relive their high school years.

I really enjoyed reading this book.  The author did a great job of exploring high school life/romance through Leslie.  This book was written in good taste and over the summer I hope my middle school age daughter will have time to read it.

Book Review: The Terrorist's Daughters

The Terrorist's Daughters:  T.O.G.G.L.E #1 (The Other Girls Get Lucifer Everyday)

I had the opportunity to read and review Brian Arthur Levene's latest book, The Terrorist's Daughters.  I received the book for free for my honest opinion about the book.  All comments are mine, and mine alone.

This book is about two sisters, Zahra and Aalia, and their lives in Pakistan. They realize that their father is a bad person, but in the beginning of the story they didn't realize how bad.

This first book takes them on a wild and cross the world adventure.  Along the way they meet Arsalan, who goes along for the ride.

This book takes you on one adventure after another while the sisters learn more about their earlier years. They also meet some characters which will tie their story altogether.

I really enjoyed reading this book because it gave me some insight into a different culture.

With each chapter, the author had you guessing on what was going to happen next.  I think this book was well written and can't wait for the next one.

I would recommend this to young adults (the high school level) and adults.

REVIEW: SLEEP NUMBER® DualTemp(TM) Layer Smiley360 Mission

SLEEP NUMBER® DualTemp(TM) Layer

On Friday, I visited the Sleep Number store in the White Marsh Mall on a Smiley360 Mission to learn more about the Sleep Number DualTemp(TP) Layer.

What an awesome experience just for a fact finding mission! Justin, the store manager, was very nice and spent a lot of time with me explaining all the wonderful benefits of the DualTemp(TP) layer. Justin knew I was there on a Smiley360 Mission and did not rush me along at all.

Justin explained to me that the Dual-sided layer has two remotes so each of you can set your ideal temperature.

You can choose from cool to warm at the touch of a button. Justin explained to me that if you want to heat your bed up, you turn the layer on while you are getting ready for bed (make sure the comforter is pulled up so the warmies stay in).

The DualTemp(TM)Layer evenly distributes temperature for head-to-toe comfort. This is when Justin tucked me and it was awesome! I layed on the cool side but I could stretch my arm out and feel the
side with the heat on. It reminded me of our old waterbed but much comfier.

The DualTemp(TM) has a breathable comfort layer softly cushions every curve. It was very comfortable to lay on and I could have had no trouble falling asleep right in the store!

There is a tiimer allows for automatic shutoff in one to nine hours.

The sizes available are Twin XL, Queen, and King. Justin even mentioned that some people that have King Size beds will get the Twin XL, if only one person is interested in the the DualTemp(TM) - what a great idea!

Three-year limited warranty offers peace of mind.

Right now Sleep Number is offering a 100 night sleep guarantee. If you don't like if you can return it after 100 nights. You don't even have to take it back to the store. They will send you a postage paid envelope to return it to Sleep Number.

Also, there is a 2 year free interest for the DualTemp(TM).

One to add to the list of "I've Seen it All"

One to add to the list of "I've Seen it All":

Was driving home and one of the people, the next street over, was riding a lawn tractor (mind you 90% of our yards are smaller than .25 acres. He was running over his ton of leaves and shooting them out into the street! I stopped hoping that he would let me drive by because my luck I would get the stone that would bing/ding the Rogue. Nope he kept on going. Are you that lazy that you can't do something else with them? I know in some states, some towns want you to put them in the street and they will come by and suck them up - not JOPPATOWNE! All I can say, is I am glad I don't live next to him. Hate to see what he is going to do if we get any snow and he has to shovel his sidewalk.

Product Review: Build A Sign's Vinyl Banner (5 out of 5 Corgi Paws)

I was approached by Rorey Edwards, Brand Manager of BuildASign.com  to create and review either a 3ft x 6ft vinyl banner25 bumper car magnets, or 50 bumper stickers from BuildASign.com.  This was such an exciting opportunity for me personally!

My daughter is a senior and a member of the Harford Tech Varsity Cheer team and we have lots of spirit but we didn't have a professional banner for our team!  Yes, we do have lots of posters (handmade with love) but a banner always stands out, especially when you move on to regional and state competitions.   Our team is a former State Champion from for the Winter 2012 season!  Our team also made it all the way to the State level for the Winter 2013 season.

This past season, that ended on November 9, 2013, we competed at the regional level.   Proudly displayed was our new banner from BuildaSign.com.  The banner was a surprise to the team, so when I was let into the competition our coach's husband had already placed our posters up,  but luckily their was room to display it but not as high as I wanted it to be displayed!  That's ok, when the coach and the team saw it they were so shocked!!!  The winter season starts this week, so when we go to our first competition in January our banner will be placed high with PRIDE!

Use of the BuildASign.com website was very easy to understand and to navigate.  I registered and in less than 15 minutes I had designed my banner.  BuildASign.com has clipart that you can use for your printing project or you can upload your own.  Just remember that your image must meet certain requirements (or they will be happy to help you to create a logo or assist you with your existing logo):

- Must be less than 20MB in size
- Must be an EPS, JPG, TIF, BMP, GIF, PNG, PDF file type
I was able to get my hands on our new Cobra logo, which really made the banner unique!

My banner arrived in about 10 days, which was great because we were on a huge time constraint.  I was SO excited, that I wouldn't even show my daughter because I wanted her to be just as excited as all the other girls, when she first saw it hanging up on the wall!

The banner came packaged in a sturdy box which is awesome for carrying it to and from competitions and then can be used for storage during the off-season.  The banner is made from heavy weight vinyl with grommets in each corner.  I just grabbed some of those removable hanging clips to hang the banner!  The banner is so beautiful.  The fonts and size of the lettering is exactly the way I wanted it.  What you see on your computer screen is exactly what you will get!

BuildASign.com does have several different banner hangers that the banner can be hung inside or outside.

This banner will last the team a LONG time!!    I am just sad that at the end of the winter cheer season, we will be handing it off to the younger cheerleaders because our time will be over as a high school cheer family.

Not only does BuildASign.com have banners, they also have signs, car magnets, bumper stickers, decals, business cards, flyers, and retractable banners. If you are a new business, club, or team -- BuildASign.com is a one stop website to get everything you need to get your NAME out to the public!

Before I placed my order, I did browse their customer reviews and knew I was in good hands.

This post was written by me (Kim Holsapple aka Frugal MD Mom Corgi Mom).  Thank you to BuildASign.com who provided the complimentary product for my review.  The opinions I shared are my own, and BuildASign did not tell me what to say or how to say it.

Product Review: OxiClean Max Force Gel Stick (5 out of 5 Corgi Paws) UPDATED

Here is the original post!

OxiClean Max Force Gel Stick works great on dry blood!  We wound up with some blood on our love seat cushion, so as soon as I noticed off came the cushion cover and I treated it with the OxiClean Max Force Gel Stick and threw them in the washing machine.

Once they were done in the washing machine, they looked as good as new!

I LOVE this product and every week, I pick one up because I don't want to be without it EVER!!!!!

Great way to store memories

I'm not much of a scrapbooker, so I have stored all the girl's important papers in a filing cabinet.

Today I had to had a brainstorm I got storage containers that fut under the bed and I started a box for each of them.

I love this idea because now whenever I get important papers or memories I can just put them in the box and its so much easier than in the filing cabinet.

Whenever they are ready to leave home all I have to do is give them this box of memories.  I think this is really important because my mom was never a saver of anything and there's some things I wish I could've shared with my girls.

The boxes I got our plastic that seal really well because about 6 years ago we had a major water disaster and I lost all my pictures from when they were little.  Thank goodness for Grandma she had lots of pictures from when they were little so I was able to get those when she passed away.

Product Review: OxiClean Max Force Gel Stick (5 out of 5 Corgi Paws)

My 16 year old daughter does weight training and has cheer practice six days a week.  Well, unfortunately she sweats really bad and her clothes were coming clean but the pits would still stink.

I tried vinegar on the armpit area, vinegar in the water, baking soda in the water, baking soda on the fabric, putting detergent right on the problem area and nothing was working.

Until now.

and I now swear by it!  It's not a big bottle and havehad  to buy one bottle a week (having to wash a cheer uniform sometimes twice a week, plus all her other clothes) but it is so worth it.  You put the gel directly on the area impacted and rub it in with the nubby top!

Now she doesn't have to be embarrassed if she wants to snuggle with her boyfriend anymore!  Plus, now I don't have to do a sniff test before I put her clothes in her laundry basket!

Hot spoons ......

Hot spoons will stop the itch of a mosquito bite.

I just read this on Life Hacks and so want to try this.

Here in Maryland the mosquitos are so bad.  They are out all day long.  I remember when April was little and would play in her sandbox she would be covered in bites.

Movie Review: Now You See Me (I give it five out five corgi paws)

Kristina and I were invited to a Sneak Peak of the movie Now You See Me, this past Thursday nite!  This was made possible thanks to our local newspaper - The Baltimore Sunpaper!

We had both wanted to see it, so we were really excited!  As Denisa, stated before the movie:  "This is not about a comic book, this is not a sequel and it is not a kiddie movie"!!!  True, true, true!

Here is one of the trailers, in case you haven't seen it.
.

This movie kept you on your seat the entire time.  I really don't want to say too much because I do not want to spoil it for anyone.

A couple of quotes  from the movie:

"First Rule of Magic, Always Be the Smartest Guy in the Room"
"The Closer you Think you Are - - The Less you Will Actual See"

Yes, we really don't get a good grip on the characters and where they come from, but for this type of movie you don't need it!!!

Kristina was surprised about the mention of Egypt Mythology.  Kristina is a huge House of Anubis fan so she got pretty excited when their was mention of how some magic drinks are associated with Mythology.

As soon as the lights came on, Kristina asked if we could buy this when it comes out to DVD!!  LOL
